Most of you know that I love working with children, being around them, and when I see kids in public I can’t help but wink or make silly faces at the little ones. God placed it in my DNA to do that. I was raised in a family where it’s second nature.
This is to all the parents out there:
Thank you for those who’ve allowed me time with your children. God has used each one to touch my soul and to brighten my day in whichever situation I was facing. As I reflect on what has been and what’s to come, I can’t help but be grateful for the smiles, laughter, tears, and crazy that children bring to my life.
But what pulls my heartstrings the most is each little hug, kiss, the grip on my shirt when I try to put the kid down, the physical and emotional hold that means they feel safe in my arms and don’t want me to let them go. We have all been at this stage in life at some point and have felt that safety and connection with an adult.
Looking at it from a different point of view, as an adult we do the same thing to God. We may have lost our childlike faith sometimes, but remember just like kids hold onto their mommy when they are frightened or just need their dad to walk them to comfort them saying “it’s okay it’s alight” or their grandparent to sing them a lullaby, we can ask our Heavenly Father to do all those things when we need comforting.
God uses your children to comfort adults more than you’ll realize. You’ll never know that the giggles in public, smile across the room, or while you’re holding an infant and they hold your finger or brush your cheek with their little hands is a gesture from God saying “even in the small moments, I still got you and love you.”
Thanks to mommies and daddies everywhere. Enjoy children, they will ALWAYS surprise you.
